Human Trafficking/Pimping & Pandering

Penal Code 236.1 defines human trafficking as any person who deprives or violates the personal liberty of another with either (a) the intent to obtain forced labor or services, (b) to effect or maintain a violation of pimping or pandering, or other sex related offenses. Usually this occurs when a pimp finds a prostitute and forces her to work for him and does not let her leave. Human trafficking carries up to 20 years in prison. Many local law enforcements agencies, including district attorney’s offices, receive specialized funding to make arrests for human trafficking. It is very important if you are charged with this crime to hire an experienced attorney at Jackson Law immediately as these cases are oftentimes charged as human trafficking due to funding issues, instead of pimping and pandering.

Pimping & Pandering cases are governed by Penal Code 266h and Penal Code 266i. Basically, this charge occurs when a person derives support from the earnings of a prostitute, knowing that the other is a prostitute. This is a serious crime that carries up to six years in state prison.
