Minor in Possession

If you are under 21 and are in possession of alcohol, you can be found guilty of Business and Professions Code 25662. This is a misdemeanor offense that will go on your record. The penalties for this offense have recently changed. The penalty consists of a fine and community service.

However, just as significant as the misdemeanor conviction is the driver’s license consequence. California Vehicle Code 13202.5 provides that a conviction for violating the minor in possession law will result in a one-year driver’s license suspension.
